Chapter 1253 Wanting phones
Chapter 1253 Wanting phones
The Nation of Reborn experienced a great upheaval, at the very moment that the television system was revealed to the general public. It seemed that the Blue Mankeys were correct. Entertainment was what this nation needed in this current time.
The television shows produced were the ones normal TVs used to show back in Michael's previous life. Things like the weather, the news, and even a travel vlog detailing the different territories of Reborn and how to get there.
People loved it. It gave people something to talk about.
'Hey, did you hear about the weather today? They said it's going to rain.'
'Did you see what happened in Angora City? I heard that someone was able to awaken with an S-class talent! They'll be in Miss Castelle's entourage soon.'
'I didn't know that the Monstera Village is part of the Reborn company now. I'd like to visit it soon. I just hope that the railways will be connected there.'
Added into the fact that people could talk to each other in the Reborn Social Media App, the discourse between citizens was at an all time high.
Of course, Michael was not a stranger to the bad parts of having a phone. He knew that people may get addicted into staring at their screens for 12 hours a day. He knew that there was a possibility for bad things to spread due to the interconnectivity of the internet.
However, he believed that the good outweighed the bad. He believed that it was for the good of society if two people who would never normally be able to talk to each other, would get to interact in the internet with a single click of a button.
It allowed for the possibility of friendship. For connection. For relationships. There were far too many things that social media was good for that it completely outweighed the bad stuff.
Of course, he was going to do his best in order to mitigate those negatives. Thankfully, ChatJK6 could easily filter through the different data being sent through the internet, and be able to discern whether it was violating the rules of the nation or not.
She was the sieve, making sure only the good and pure parts of the internet were making it through.
In these early days of the phone, that wouldn't be much of a problem. But he was anticipating the future. Once everyone in the entire world had access to a phone and the internet, there were invariably going to be some negatives filtering through.
But for now though, it was the honeymoon phase for the internet and the phone.
Speaking of which, seems to be a hot topic for thieves for the current moment.
"Demi-humans are stealing phones?" Michael asked the Orc Chieftains.
Narito and Sasuki both nodded.
"RAH TA TA! They've been posing as citizens to infiltrate our nation and bolt as soon as they get their hands on a few phones."
The Nation of Reborn was the only place in the Royal Continent that welcomed the demi-humans wholeheartedly. Most of the citizens in the nation were demi-humans. So it was easy for those thieves to get past their system.
"Are they part of some Upper Echelon company?" he asked.
The Orc Chieftains shook their heads. "BU TO TO! We've sent one of our Elite Penumbras to follow the thieves. And they found out where they're staying: the chasm."
This was surprising for Michael. "The chasm? You mean, the one…."
He pointed to the 3D topographical map in the middle of the room. Right now, the chasm separating New Sparta from the rest of the continent was colored orange, meaning they were a territory that was neither a friend or foe to the Reborn company.
There was a small circle with an arrow pointing to the darkness of the chasm. A picture of a red-mankey was inside that circle, showing its inhabitants.
"The Red Mankeys… they're stealing our phones?"
Michael didn't know how they even knew about the appearance of the phones, but it seemed that they were inclined to get more for themselves.
He didn't know if that was a good or bad thing.
"They stole those phones from our furthest allies in the north," explained Narito. "We do not think that they knew they stole from us. They just wanted to steal the phones."
Meaning, it was more likely for the demi-humans to be interested in the phone itself as the reason for the theft, rather than a devious intent to fight against Reborn.
"Should we retrieve our units, boss?"
Michael thought for a second. And in the end, he chose not to retrieve the stolen phones.
After all, this could be the way for them to be invited into the chasm! If the demi-humans there were to see the Nation of Reborn through the pictures and videos in the social media app there, then they may be more inclined to visit the Parched Lands.
This was great! Michael had been thinking of a way to start a conversation with the demi-humans there, but never found something that would work. From what he knew, those demi-humans hated anyone intruding into their space, no matter the reason. So, even when he sent friendly messengers there, they always rejected it.
But now, Michael could infiltrate their forces from the inside! He'll let them see the beauty of Reborn, and then soon, they'll be the one wanting to be invited into Reborn!
And so, he made a decision.
"Once the phone factory is finished, I'll send some units to the outskirts of our territory. Make sure to lessen the defenses there, so that the demi-humans would be more inclined to steal the phones."
The Shadow Orcs nodded, before going off on their own ways.
Meanwhile, Michael oversaw the construction of the new phone factory. Nothing special in its design, unlike the Mobius automobile factory, just something that was serviceable. After all, it would be constructed in the Nation of Reborn, meaning they didn't have to worry about defenses as much as the Mobius factory.
And so, about a day later, the factory was finished.
