New Delhi: The Indian government will push major steel producers in the country to increase scrap input to 50 percent between 2023 and 2047 to achieve a faster circular economy, Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a statement on February 6.

 

Korea s YK Steel will build a small plant

 

YKSteel, controlled by Korea Steel, ordered equipment from SMS, a German metallurgical equipment maker. In late 2021, YK Steel announced the relocation and upgrading of its existing facilities, but those plans eventually changed and a decision was made to build a new plant that will be operational in 2025.

 

Cleveland-cleaves raises sheet price

 

Cleveland-Cliffs, the largest U.S. sheet maker, said Feb. 2 that it had raised base prices on all flat-rolled products by at least $50. This is the company’s fourth price increase since late November.

 

SAIL of India achieved its highest monthly crude steel production in January

 

SAIL, India’s state-run steelmaker, said in a statement on the 6 February that total crude steel production at all its plants reached 1.72 million tonnes and finished steel production reached 1.61 million tonnes in January, both the highest monthly volumes ever recorded.

 

India became a net importer of finished steel in Q4 2022

 

India’s imports of finished steel exceeded exports for the third consecutive month in December 2022, making the country a net importer of finished steel in the fourth quarter of 2022, provisional figures released by the Joint Works Commission (JPC) showed on January 6.
