Anti-dumping duties imposed on Chinese stainless steel pipes

The proposed anti-dumping duties range from $114 per ton to $3,801 per ton for stainless steel pipes and pipes of various grades.
NEW DELHI: The Center imposed a five-year anti-dumping duty on seamless stainless steel pipe imports from China to eliminate “harm” to domestic industry.
“Anti-dumping duties levied pursuant to this notice are effective for five years from the date of publication of this notice in the Official Gazette (unless they have been withdrawn, replaced or modified earlier) and are payable in Indian currency,” the notice reads. government. .
The proposed anti-dumping duties range from $114 per ton to $3,801 per ton for stainless steel pipes and pipes of various grades. In fact, the tariff is expected to increase the price of such products and prevent their unnecessary use in the market at the expense of domestic stainless steel producers of similar grades and manufacturers.
The General Directorate of Trade Remedies (DGTR) of the Department of Commerce proposed in September to impose tariffs on imports of seamless pipe and stainless steel pipes from China after an investigation concluded that the products were being sold in India at lower prices than they could sold in the Chinese domestic market. market – this has had an impact on the Indian industry.
These products are sold at the same low price as the raw materials used to produce them, leaving little room in the market for domestic players.
The DGTR investigation began after Chandan Steel Ltd, Tubacex Prakash India Pvt Ltd and Welspun Specialty Solutions Ltd requested an anti-dumping investigation. Indian manufacturers are able to meet domestic demand in this segment. This will not only put idle capacity to work, but also generate revenue for the state treasury in addition to employment, said Rajamani Krishnamurthy, chairman of the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA).
